if there’s one thing twitter still needs to fix, it’s this

twitter’s direct message (DM) feature has longed been plagued with a problem that drives me crazy, the inability to reply to direct messages from people who aren’t following you…

as many know (and many more don’t), you can’t DM someone if they’re not following you. i think twitter does this to prevent spam, and to keep celebrities, with their millions and millions of followers, from getting inundated with DM spam..

my issue though, is that many people don’t know how the DM feature works, so they’ll send you a DM expecting a reply, but then you CAN’T reply to them because they’re not following you, leaving you looking like a rude, unresponsive slacker…

if someone sends me a DM, i should be allowed to reply, even if they’re not following me. it’s obvious they want to communicate with me, they sent me a DM!

twitter needs to get on this, it just doesn’t make any sense…
